Scarf: JNBY
A clothing line founded in 1994 in Hangzhou China, JNBY takes clothing beyond its basic function by allowing it’s wearers to think outside the box in discovering other ways to wear one single garment. A shirt turned into a skirt, scarf, and a shawl or a jacket that can be worn inside out or even upside down, JNBY has given its consumers the opportunity to be their own creative designer.
I have always been intrigued by the unique designs of JNBY, so with a recent invitation to its private fashion show of their Holiday 2009 collection, I was swift to RSVP and of course being a ‘STARVING’ individual that I am, how could I possibly deny free champagne, food and of course fabulous fashions?
The fashion show, hosted at their new and chic store location on West 4th in Kitsilano was a delight and intimate gathering of loyal clients, local fashionistas and artistically savvy individuals. Models sashayed intensely one by one down the runway, with the exception of one who soaked up some extra unneeded limelight by awkwardly grazing it but luckily, that did not take away the splendour and absolute edginess of the garments.
The clothing designs were fresh and innovative. The natural fabrics used were luxe and the leathers, completely lavish. I also liked the major intricate detailing that was presented and the wide use of different textures gave a lot of definition to the garments.
I enjoyed my time at the show, catching up with many familiar faces and getting to know new ones. I nearly went retardly-blind a handful of times though and bumped into a mannequin or two, due to the extreme track lighting set-up for the runway, but nonetheless I left the show with the admiration of a brand who understands that fashion is about “Showing personality through natural creativity” and by telling people to “Just Naturally Be Yourself”.
